From the Beckley Newspaper:

Karen Sue Lewis Angle

CHARMCO — Karen Sue Lewis Angle, 58, left this world to enter into the House of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008.

Karen was born in Meadow Bridge on April 24, 1949. Shortly thereafter she moved to Rainelle.

Karen was baptized at First Baptist Church in Rainelle. She later moved her membership to Sew-ell Valley Baptist Church, where she supported the Rainelle Christian Academy Eagles and where her son, Lee, played soccer and basketball. She and Jesse attended every game, took pictures and kept score at that time. Karen loved to crochet and tried to give a baby blanket to each new mother in the church. In her youth, she was a member of the BYF and Tri-Hi-Y. She was an avid WVU fan, and when passing her house on game day, there was no question as to which team she supported. Karen’s life interests were her family, her spiritual life, her career, reading, and sporting events.

Karen was valedictorian of the Rainelle High School Class of 1967. She was also a varsity cheerleader for the mighty Rainelle Rangers. Karen was a 1971 graduate of Concord College and received her Master’s degree from Marshall University. She started her teaching career at East Rainelle Elementary and then went to Rupert Elementary, where she retired from service. Karen knew from early childhood that she wanted to teach school. However, she found this was not to be her greatest achievement in life. As much as she loved teaching, she was fully smitten when she married her husband, Jesse Lee Angle of Hines, and then celebrated what she considered her greatest achievement, the birth of her son, Jesse Lee Angle II “Lee.”

She also had the pleasure of enjoying her nephew, C.B., and his son, Conner, and they were always in her prayers and in her heart. Her life revolved around the three boys and their goals in life. She generously shared her son with her sisters and all claimed motherhood to Lee and C.B. Joking, it was said the boys were brothers and both had three mothers.

Her only regret would have been not seeing Lee and his beloved wife, Margaret, graduate in December 2008 from Sherman College of Chiropractic, both as doctors of chiropractic. She felt great peace in knowing Lee found his life partner, Margaret of South Carolina, a daughter of missionaries, a Christian and of spirit that fills the room with joy. Karen’s happiness was fulfilled in Lee’s happiness. Karen prayed for five years for the perfect wife to present herself to Lee, and God had her waiting in South Carolina.

Her parents, Arnold E. and Allene Mae Day Lewis, and her devoted brother, Delmas T. Lewis, preceded Karen in death.

Karen is survived by her husband of 36 years, Jesse Lee Angle, and her son and daughter (in-law), J. Lee Angle II and Margaret Shreve Angle. She is also survived by her elder sister, Marilyn Lewis Bennett and husband, Clarence, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; nephew, C.B. Bennett, and her great-nephew, Conner H. Bennett; younger sister, Sharon Gadd Arnold and husband, Danny R.; brother, Thomas Wiseman and wife Shelia and children of Wilson, N.C.; and first cousin, Arlene C. Lewis of Beckley, who was considered to be the fourth sister by all in the family. Karen lived with Arlene and her family for a year in her pre-teen years. Karen is also survived by her mother’s family, her aunts and uncles, Jay and Nancy Day of Troutville, Va., Richard and Peggy Day of Meadow Bridge, Janice Day Simpson and Ed Simpson of Flowery Bridge, Ga., and Mary Day Waites and Johnnie of Monroe, Ga., and their children and grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family in a traditional wake from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sewell Valley Baptist Church. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16 (Palm Sunday), at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Seth Burke will release the White Flights.

Jesse and Lee also want to thank all of those who sent up prayers for Karen. To Dr. Abigail Winters who diagnosed her illness, for the kind words, for all the Medical and TP care, and the expressions of love shown to the family. Special thanks to Sandy Alderman, Debbie Pennington and Margie Hall. They proved to be lifetime friends and Karen loved them very much. A special thank you to the people who helped the family grow in spirit and help prepare them in spirit for this passing over of Karen. Throughout her battle with cancer, she never complained and fought until God called her home.

Smathers Funeral Home, Rainelle, is in charge of arrangements.
