Arleta (Wilson) Smith

Arleta Mae Smith, 82, of Penhook, Va., went to be with her Lord on Feb. 9, 2010, after a long illness.

Before moving to Virginia, she resided in Wilmington, N.C., and Hurricane, W.Va.

Arleta was a graduate of Rainelle High School and Concord College with a B.S. degree in elementary education. She taught school in Greenbrier County, W.Va., and Prince George's County, Md. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 108, in Lewisburg.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Bernard Andrew Smith. Her parents, Bruddie A. and Edris (Bragg) Wilson of Rainelle, and brother, Bruddie Gene Wilson of Alderson, also preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Marina Jean Palank and husband Joseph of Wilmington, N.C., and Bernard A. Smith and wife Pamela McClure-Smith, M.D., of Penhook, Va.; four grandchildren, John Mullins of Gambrills, Md., Jennifer Johnson and husband Nicholas of Antioch, Ill., Andrew Smith of Morgantown, W.Va., and Chelsea Smith of Penhook, Va.; one great-grandson, Logan Johnson; and two sisters, Leona June Johnson and husband John Jay of Yorktown, Va., and Julie Rhodes of Michigan.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Clintonville, with Minister Terry Schultz officiating.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

Wallace and Wallace of Rainelle is in charge of arrangements.
