As you may know, we have an In Memoriam page http://www.rainellereunion.com/in-memoriam.html You are welcome to send notices, tributes and other information.

We thought it would be good to have a topic on the discussion board that will notify Rangers quickly when we hear about the passing of a classmate or friend of Rainelle. This will allow you to send a card, flowers or attend the funeral if possible. I am about to post one. We welcome your contributions. Dale

Tom Hall, Sr., passed away Sunday. I know him and the wonderful Hall family well. They were my family's next door neighbors in Lilly Park for many years and we grew up with Linda, Tommy and Jeannie. The Dairy Queen, his family's primary business, was an integral part of many of our lives.

Patty Cox Osborne sent this, "Tom's services will be Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. In my opinion, Tom was a great person. He fought a very brave battle against the emphysema that took his life. Wonder how many cones of ice cream he gave away every spring to the children of Rainelle? I remember looking forward to 'that walk' to the Dairy Queen every year!"

Tom's obituary can be found here: http://www.register-herald.com/obituaries/local_story_079201430.html

We send our love and respects to the family.

Our friend, Gerry Mitchell's father, Frank Mitchell, passed away this morning at approximately 2:50 a.m. His services are this Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Smathers' Funeral Home in Rainelle. Visits can pay their respects an hour prior to that. Gerry is with his mother in Rainelle. Mr. (Frank) Mitchell will be buried at The End Of The Trail cemetery complex.

Many of us have grown closer to Gerry while he has worked hard to provide high-quality scans of the Ranger yearbooks. He is a truly nice and giving man.

Gerry, we grieve with you. You and your family are in our prayers and our thoughts.

We are reluctant to put people's mailing addresses on a public bulletin board, especially if we haven't obtained their okay, but if you wish to have Mrs. Mitchell's or Gerry's address, please let me or Andy Aide Pendleton know.

Mr. Frank Mitchell's obituary can be viewed here: http://www.rainellereunion.com/images/SCAN_OF_FRANK_MITCHELLs_OBITUARY.jpg

I can't think of a more appropriate tribute to Frank and Wenona than a post Andy made February 18th. I will paste it below:
_____

Jerry Mitchell had recently sent me a very nice picture of his parents, Frank and Wenona Mitchell.

Jerry's Dad did not attend RHS however he had worked most of his adult life in Rainelle. Most of us remember Frank as the right hand man for Dick Jarrett while working at the Rainelle Dept. Store. Frank had worked at the dept. store from 1940 until its closing. After the Rainelle Dept. store closed Frank remained on board at the store with the new owners the Gwinn family until its closing. Again after the Gwinn family closed the store Frank again moved on working as department manager at Aide's Discount Store until his third retirement. Frank was always a top quality employee that worked hard for his employer and always gave his full attention to his customers...Everyone wanted Frank to help them...he is loved by all..

I have heard via e-mail that George Aide passed away yesterday morning. As we know, George Aide was an anchor and hard worker for Rainelle for many years and was known and respected by a multitude of West Virginians. Carolyn Johnson Hunter let some of us know and stated our sentiments well regarding our friend, Andy. She said, "We knew he (Mr. Aide) was very ill during the time of the reunion and that Andy was sacrificing time with her dad to be with us. She worked very hard on the reunion and we all appreciate all she did."

Mr. Aide had been ill for quite some time and had put up a strong fight to remain with his beloved family. Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with Andy and the entire family. I have grown to further know and appreciate Andy as a very dear friend while working on the Website, visits to Rainelle, and some reunion items. She is tireless and loves Rainelle. I tried to find information about the arrangements online, but was not able to do so. Please post arrangements or drop me a note if you know the arrangements.

I called Wallace & Wallace in Rainelle, and they said they couldn't tell me exactly how much is still owed on the bill, but it is less than $2,000. She was also a well known crafter, having made many quilts which she gave to her children and grandchildren. She was also well known for her homemade soap which she gave to everyone who would accept it. She gave a sample of her cucumber soap to Barbara Mandrell, a performer at the state fair. She was very community-minded and was usually first in a home where there was a death or serious illness with offer of food, money or just a presence. Prue’s final years were spent with Barbara, who was her primary caregiver. She and Jesse celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1979 and they were married a total of 61 years until Jesse passed away in 1990. Prue had a hugh number of friends — she was very well known throughout Greenbrier County. She took great joy in participating in community activities — especially the Shanghai Parade in Lewisburg on New Year’s Day.

Prue loved to crochet, canning, loved her vegetable garden and took great pride in sharing with neighbors. Her home was filled with cloth bolts from her many craft activities. She was very proud of her age and took great pride that she was self-sufficient and could still drive well past her 95th birthday. Mrs. Piercy leaves a host of family and friends and the world has been blessed to have her for almost 103 years.

Prue married Jesse J. Piercy, Nov. 29, 1929, at Rupert, and soon after they established a home in Clintonville, four children were born at the family home in Clintonville. Surviving her are James W. (Jim) and wife, Leona, of Elkview, Barbara Stone and husband, Frank, of Clintonville, Janet McNeel and husband, Lanty, of Hillsboro and Carl Curtis (Pete) and wife, Judy, of Clintonville; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Service will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the James Chapel United Methodist Church, Clintonville, with the Rev. Von Sadler officiating. Burial will follow in the James Chapel Cemetery, beside her deceased husband, Jesse Piercy.

Friends may call 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the James Chapel United Methodist Church, Clintonville, and at the church one hour prior to the service Saturday.

The family acknowledges and appreciates the loving care given by the Parrish family, Larry, Glenna, Jodie and Justin, to our mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the James Chapel Building Fund, c/o the Rev. Von Sadler, Clintonville, W.Va., or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements by Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea.

We regret to inform you that our dear friend, Gerry Mitchell, Class of '64, has passed away. Gerry’s health had been deteriorating over the past few years. We got to know Gerry well over the past three years as we worked on the Rainelle Reunion Website. Gerry took great pride in the Reunion Website and worked very hard on it, constantly seeking and editing photos and articles to add them to the site. A look at the Meadow River page will give you an idea of his amazing contributions. Gerry dearly loved Rainelle. We will miss him. We will honor Gerry by continuing to update the Website’s photos, though we will never be able to do the photos as well as he did.

As soon as we receive the funeral arrangements, we will let you know. Gerry’s wife, Karen, plans to have him at Hall’s Funeral Home in Warren, Ohio. We assume that the obituary will be on Hall’s Website - http://www.carlwhallfuneralhome.com/obituaries.asp

Hello everyone,

I am sad to pass on to you that Helen Adair Kincaid Aide, mother of Andy, George Jr., Richard, Michael, Nancy, Gary & Cherie, passed away last Sunday. Many of you knew Mrs. Aide from high school.

Mrs. Aide's obituary is located at:
http://wvgazette.com/Obituaries/201011040001?display=email&id=97484&build=cache It is a very nice tribute to this marvelous lady.

Andy told me that her mother was older and had extreme health problems and Andy said she realized that her mother needed to go on to a better life. It is still, understandably, very difficult for Andy and the family and they miss their mother.

We will keep the Aide family in our prayers.

Cleveland Lewis Puckett went to Heaven January 3, 2013. Husband to Linda – his heart since the beginning of time and wife since 1966; father to his girls: Cherie, Terrie, Dora and Bev; papaw to his grandchildren Rebekah, Rachel and Jakob and his great granddaughter Riley; "Uncle Papaw" to Katie, Leah, Joe, Stephen, Mackensie, Jewel, Sammy, Michael and Nicholas; brother by birth to Jack, Ginny, Lester, and Gloria (who all preceded him to Heaven) and Freddie, Mary Alice, Donny, Ginger and Cindy; brother by the blessings of marriage to Sam, Emily, Kent, Jason, Rowena, Steven, Sue Ellen, Elliot and Neil; "Uncle Clevie" to nieces, nephews and family too numerous to list. Beloved son of Mary Arthesta Bottomley Puckett, thankful grandson of Andrew Preston "Dad" Bottomley, and blessed son of Hazel Conley Ball. Father-in-law to Martin.

Friend, mentor, rescuer of people and animals, and fixer of all things. A man who defied death many times (facing his new in-laws, snakes, tumbling car, paralysis, exploding trailer, cutting off fingers and sewing them back on...) and enjoyed living to the fullest capacity.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Cleveland's memory can be directed to the Children's Home of Cincinnati, 5050 Madison Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45227 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517,

A Celebration of Life Service under full military honors will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11 AM at the funeral home.
